Personality

Soren has a personality much like his uncle Kurthnaga’s, who he spends most of his time with, though he has a tendency to be very outspoken when it comes to sharing his knowledge with others. Being typically reserved, quiet, and soft-spoken, talking about subjects he is learned on, such as magic, is where he really shines. Interacting with his mother can leave him feeling nearly devoid of feeling, so he doesn’t like to approach her alone.

He hasn’t really dealt with negative emotion, usually brushing it over with happy thoughts and activities that he can distract himself with. Therefore, intense negative situations or events such as the chaotic blanket of battle can push him to feel frantic.

Overall, he is very kind and polite. Also like his uncle, he gets excitable at the prospect of meeting new people and traveling to new places. His curiosity wholly takes hold of him when interacting with other laguz, who may oddly react with fear towards him, and when he meets the miraculously strong and valiant beorc commander Ike.

Backstory

After the successful rescue of Almedha and baby Soren (and the failure of Rajaion’s capture), Soren was raised in the laguz nation of Goldoa as a member of the royal family. Due to his heritage and Dheginsea’s disdain for what that entails, he is more sheltered than the dragon siblings, being kept to the confines of the palace walls. With this, he is also unaware of his nature, believing his rapid aging and inability to shift to be a rare birth defect.

Still, Soren has a very well-rounded upbringing. He has a particular knack for mathematics and magic, but avoids Thunder Magic because of the races’ weakness to it. He spends most of his days close to his uncle Kurthnaga, who is closest to him in age, and dreams of a day when he might finally be allowed to venture outside. His relationship with Almedha is as strong as it can possibly be, while she learns to cope with the loss of her older brother, her birthright, and the backlash of returning to Goldoa with her halfling child. He doesn’t quite understand this and is led to think that his mother merely chooses not to shift after Rajaion’s passing, still adoring his mother unconditionally. Things are rocky with his grandfather, who also has a less than pleasant relationship with Almedha. He tends to keep an arm’s length distance with Soren, regarding him rather coldly when they do exchange words. Despite this, the boy still has hope that he can someday impress the old king and bridge the gap between them.

That is, until he and Kurthnaga vanish for a meeting with the other Laguz leaders. Discussed quietly between the dragon king and his children, Soren’s worry pervades as the energy in the palace gradually shifts to something tense and he isn’t able to pinpoint why this is the case. Eventually, word makes its round about the Mad King’s War, which has come and gone, and the death of Daein’s King Ashnard. Soren questions why they never stepped in to help the conflict, but leaves it to rest since things are over with. Finally, Soren meets his aunt Ena, and Nasir, as when they return to Goldoa to give Rajaion a proper burial. For three years, things start to lighten up once more, but questions of doubt continue to swirl around Soren’s head. For 18 years of his life, he thought his uncle to be deceased. In trying to bring this up to Kurthnaga and Almedha, they continue to, hesitantly, refuse his inquiries. Now 21, once Yune is inevitably awakened, Dheginsea decides he can no longer stand by while the Dark God’s army marches towards the Tower of Guidance and Kurthnaga, having made good rapport with the Greil Mercenaries and seen the effects of Ashera’s Judgement, makes the decision to fight against his father.

Something strange happens. Almedha and seemingly the rest of Goldoa (save for Ena, Nasir, and Gareth) have turned to stone, but Soren hasn’t. Figuring this has something to do with his birth defect and hoping to find his answers along the way, he pleads to travel with those heading to join the fight against Ashera. With his abnormal talent in magic, he argues that he can at least act as a healer, if he isn’t able to participate in the fight.

Here, he meets Radiant Hero, Ike, for the first time.
